No, and the difference is structural. Discord is a chat that scrolls away, so the answer to your question is gone by Thursday and nobody can find it again. Here, questions stay threaded and searchable, work gets critiqued in a dedicated space, and there is a monthly brief telling you what to build next. If all you want is somewhere to talk to other artists, free Discords do that well and you do not need to pay for this.
No. The program is a sequential course that takes you from where you are to a specific standard, start to finish, and it is sold separately. This is ongoing: live workshops, critique on your own work, and a monthly challenge. Neither one requires the other. If you want a structured path through lighting, that is the program. If you want people looking at what you are making right now, that is this.
You should already be comfortable building a scene in Unreal and getting a render out on your own. Below that level the critique will be hard to act on and the monthly brief will be too much at once. If you are there, or close to it, you will get a lot out of the room. If you are not yet, learn the basics first and join when you have something to show.
The workshops are led by working artists, not tutorial makers. Recent and upcoming sessions include Salvador Sanchez from Playground Games on cinematic interior lighting in UE5, and the guest lineup continues in that direction. The value for a working artist is less the teaching and more the room: senior peers looking at your work, and honest notes from people who ship shots for a living.
Members are spread across dozens of countries, so no single time works for everyone. Every session is recorded and posted in the library within a few days, and it stays there for as long as you are a member. You can also submit questions in advance and have them answered live, so you are not shut out of a session just because you were asleep for it.
You keep access until the end of the term you have paid for, then it stops. Nothing is charged after that. Payments already made are not refunded, including partial terms, so if you are unsure whether this fits, start on the monthly plan: it is $39, you can cancel before the next charge, and you will know inside a month.
The founding rate covers your first term. After that your membership renews at the standard rate for your plan.
It runs on a private platform, not a social network, and you can reach it in a browser or on your phone. Your invite is emailed as soon as payment clears, so you are usually inside within a few minutes. If it has not arrived, check spam first and then email us and we will get you in.
